When apartment hunting it is easy to get overwhelmed. There are so many apartments to see, amenities to explore, neighbourhoods to consider and features to fret over as you search for your home.

The process can be daunting but it is worth it, we promise. Here are some suggestions to make the most out of your search:

  • Prioritize what's important to you in your home. Your home should be your happy place. What are the non-negotiables when it comes to your home? If in-suite laundry is important to you, find a place that in-suite laundry. If you want the convenience of shopping and transit close to home, ensure you check out the neighbourhood in addition to the physical apartment.

  • Ask all the questions and write down the answers. Whether it's in your phone or on a notepad, come prepared with a list of questions and take notes as you go. Common things you may want to inquire about could be: what utilities are included, what is required as part of the application process, how long is the lease term, and is the place pet friendly.

  • Before you come to the showing, print off copies of your proof of income (T4, paystub or letter from your employer) and government issued photo ID, and bring a blank cheque for a security deposit. Should you want to move forward with an application, having everything on hand will show the leasing agent that you're serious and that you're prepared. It will also help ensure that the apartment you have your eye on doesn't get rented because you weren't ready to put in an application.

While it may seem daunting, we hope you have fun apartment hunting. Picture yourself in each unit you visit and really try to envision yourself in your new home. You'll know when you're home and we hope that you'll consider making Bison Pointe home.
